Baltimore, MD (October 4, 2017) – The Mullan Contracting Company has completed renovations to the “living space” areas of the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department, located at 5000 Southwestern Boulevard in the Halethorpe section of Baltimore County. Mullan Contracting has performed general contracting services for a number of fire department companies throughout the Maryland region, including most recently The Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company in Baltimore County and the Glenwood Fire Station in Howard County.
The scope of the project focused on improving the “day room” section of the fire department where the company’s volunteer personnel congregate while waiting for the next emergency call. This included upgrading the kitchen area, including the installation of a commercial-grade oven and granite countertops; and improving the office space, training room and meeting room areas. Mullan Contracting completely gutted the first floor space before initiating improvements, which also included the installation of separate men’s and women’s rooms. The station was also outfitted with WiFi Internet access that is available throughout the station.
“Because the entire staff of the fire station is comprised of volunteers, it was important to improve the living space section to make it more comfortable and engaging, while also encouraging the staff to spend more time at the facility,” explained Joseph Rode, President of The Mullan Contracting Company. “The goal was to maintain a higher level of attendance on-site for an extended period of time, so the volunteers could immediately respond to emerging situations in the community.”
Architectural services were provided by Whitney Bailey Cox & Magnani, LLC.
