Bakery operation constructs distribution center and truck maintenance facility to accommodate continued growth of business
Baltimore, MD (December 19, 2014) – Baltimore City Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake helped dedicate the new 27,000 square foot office and distribution center, constructed by The Mullan Contracting Company on behalf of Northeast Foods and located within the Hollander 95 Business Park at 2001 62nd Street in Baltimore City. The project also contains a 6,000 square foot truck maintenance facility.
Northeast Foods, headquartered in Baltimore, is the largest manufacturer and supplier of hamburger buns in the United States and has been partnering with McDonald’s Corporation since 1965. The bakery operation intends to utilize the new buildings to accommodate the continued growth of the business. Northeast Foods is a division of H & S Bakery.
The building utilizes technology to reduce harmful vehicle emissions through the use of a fleet of propane autogas-fueled vehicles. Over the lifetime of these delivery trucks, the fleet is estimated to lower carbon dioxide emissions by more than 360,000 pounds, which is the equivalent of removing approximately twenty-five cars from the streets of Baltimore City.
“Our team constructed the distribution facility, consisting of a pre-engineered steel building, as well as the truck maintenance project, which features a masonry and steel frame, simultaneously to expedite the construction schedule and save resources,” explained Joseph Rode, President of The Mullan Contracting Company. “The construction job proceeded seamlessly, the owner took occupancy of the building on schedule and the structure is operating at peak performance.”
